State Tax Planning Manager ***Charlotte NC***

State Tax Planning Manager Responsibilities: • Utilize broad knowledge of state tax practices and procedures, originality and ingenuity to develop, enhance and implement tax planning strategies. • Apply state tax knowledge, accounting principles and corporate finance policies to conduct and document complex tax analysis projects. Interact with business units and colleagues in the development and analysis of strategies and/or varying filing methodologies. • Present strategy recommendations to management when necessary. • Actively participate in corporate projects and strategic planning assignments. • Provide support for corporate initiatives. • Lead, coordinate or manage multiple ongoing projects. • Identify and consult with division personnel and leadership to facilitate project completion and establish timelines. • Develop presentations for internal and external audiences when appropriate. • Engage and direct internal and external resources to achieve business solutions, suggest appropriate methodologies to be utilized, schedule and monitor resource utilization. • Develop, utilize and maintain planning models needed for analysis, measurement, assessment of financial data and decision-making. • Collect, organize and analyze the reasonableness of financial data, draw conclusions, present findings, and make recommendations. • Coordinate reconcilement of assumptions and/or forecasts with actual results, changes in sensitivity and the impact of various business strategies. • Participate in the refinement of measurement techniques. Act as owner and expert on tools, methodologies and systems. • Research, analyze and resolve state tax issues raised by colleagues, business units and Finance group leaders. • Provide analytical support and consultation to business units and colleagues. • Identify, define and seek solutions to state tax issues, as well as risks and sensitivities. • Evaluate issues from multiple perspectives and prepare business justifications as necessary. • Bring inconsistencies and problems to the attention of management. • Identify and evaluate related risks, issues, trends and variances. • Will be responsible for the development of lower level tax consultants. Requirements: • Excellent analytical skills with extensive experience in state tax planning. • Ability to develop complex financial models for use in problem solving. • Strong technical writing, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills. • Strong PC skills. • Leadership skills sufficient to direct, develop and motivate a staff of professional financial analysts and consultants. • Ability to lead professionals on extended, multiple dimensional projects. • Requires a basic knowledge of business operations. • Understanding of accounting standards, practices and state tax concepts and tools. • Knowledge of internal reporting methodology, banking products and functions is valued, but not required. Industry specific or public accounting experience is also required. • MBA or advanced degree or certification, or equivalent experience required.
