The first use of lipstick dates back to 5000 years ago ancient Mesopotamia. Semi-precious jewels were crushed and the powder is applied to the lips and sometimes around the eyes. Women from the Indus Valley Civilization were known to have applied lipsticks to decorate their face. Egyptians extracted a red dye from fucus-algin and some bromine mannite which cause very serios illness. Cleopatra used lipsticks made from crushed carmine bettles for their deep red pigment. The pearlscense from fish scales were also used in lipsticks for their shimmering effect. Check out Dior Addict and other great lipsticks at Sephora.
